Youry Pierre-Louis

Youry was born in Haiti and moved to the US as a young 4-year-old child. Youry and his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida. Youry graduated Florida State University in 2019, with a Biological Science degree, specifically concentrating in Neuroscience. He is currently a second-year medical student at Alpert Medical School. As a part of the SURGE lab, Youry has been involved in studying the definition of inclusion in surgical workforce, COVID and ACE-inhibitors in patients with vascular disease, as well as comparing outcomes of post-neurological emergencies in Dual-Eligible patients versus patients with other insurance statuses. Prior to joining SURGE, Youry’s research background includes undergraduate independent study in which he studied novel markers in different cancers. His projects included health disparities, obesity and inflammation, adipocyte dedifferentiation. In addition to his four-year research experience in Dr. Qing-Xiang (Amy) Sang’s Cancer Biomarkers lab, he had the opportunity to participate in a summer research internship program at Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia. The Monell Science Apprenticeship Program allowed Youry to study and present his work with Dr. Yali Zhang regarding salt taste perception. Aside from research interests, Youry enjoys photography, food, running,
and movies.
