OVERVIEW
Developing a diverse and inclusive biomedical workforce, reflective of the population it serves, is a high priority and essential to eliminating the disparities in the health and healthcare of minority and marginalized populations in the United States. We have created an intentional and focused mentorship and career development program centered on an inquiry-based, competency-driven health disparities research (HDR) and quality improvement (QI) curriculum to provide research training across a broad clinical and translational spectrum by leveraging existing programs and strengths, while developing new partnerships.
MISSION
Create a dynamic multidisciplinary research group to provide a structured framework of mentorship and clinical research focusing on social determinants of health (SDoH) and health equity while building skills to critically evaluate and carry out QI and HDR projects across a broad range of clinical and translational areas.

OBJECTIVES
- Increase knowledge and awareness of the impact of SDoH on the health of minorities and marginalized patient populations
- Foster interest in conducting QI and HDR research that is broad and transformative
- Teach investigators the skills to critically evaluate, design and implement QI and HDR
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration amongst researchers interested in health equity
- Increase recruitment, retention, and advancement of historically underrepresented minority (URM) faculty and trainees
