Originally from Skaneateles, New York, Kiara Corcoran Ruiz is currently a third-year medical student and an aspiring ophthalmologist. She attended Brown University where she studied Public Health and worked in a visual neuroscience lab studying retinal ganglion cell connectomics. She is interested in structural competency curriculum in medical education and studying healthcare disparities, particularly in Spanish-speaking patients and in surgical subspecialties. As a medical student, she is pursuing a scholarly concentration in biomedical informatics and hopes to use her skills in data analysis to contribute to research in the SURGE Lab. She also enjoys cooking, traveling and tending to her extensive houseplant collection.
